Plot summary
Péter is a police detective in Brasov, where his work is human trafficking, and every woman he rescues reminds him of his sister. Juli was thirteen when she disappeared from Valan, a mining town in Transylvania, in the chaos of the Romanian revolution of 1989. Nobody ever found her. Twenty-two years on, word reaches Péter that a girl's body has been found in the snow-capped mountains near his hometown, and he goes back after a long absence. Whether the body is Juli's is the question he carries with him. In Valan, local criminals and old sins of the present and the past wait for him, along with the shadows of his own childhood.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Director Béla Bagota wrote the screenplay years earlier with a Hungarian location in mind, but after he "found" Balánbánya he rewrote the story completely to fit the Transylvanian mining town.
- Knowledge of Romanian was one of the chief conditions of the casting because the makers tried to be linguistically authentic, and so 25-30 percent of the film is spoken in Romanian.
- Csaba Krisztik, who plays Péter in the film, had never acted in a film before: Valan was his first film role.
