Plot summary
Charlie Tuttle has just become a partner at Whitfield and Morris. His boss, who is also his future father-in-law, sends him from California to a small town, Paradise Bluff, to seek a postponement in a mail fraud case. The client, Benny Gibbs, looks likely to be convicted, and Charlie's wedding is close. Richard Rietti, an actor and Charlie's best man, arrives to throw him a bachelor party. A barfight and a bottle of painkillers leave Charlie unable to appear, so Richard takes his place in court. The matter goes to trial instead of being postponed, and Charlie, posing as Richard's assistant, coaches him on how to object. Charlie also meets Billie Tyler, a waitress in town.
