Plot summary

The Treasury Department is hunting the source of a high-grade counterfeiting operation, and its agents also want the plates that once belonged to Tris Stewart. Stewart, in prison for counterfeiting, accepts an early parole arranged as a fake jailbreak, on the understanding that he stays under watch and helps the agents find who is doing the forging now. The Secret Service tracks Meg Dixon, also known as Laurie Fredericks, Stewart's girlfriend, who works in a Los Angeles restaurant; agent John Downey, using the name Johnny Hackett, has become a regular there, posing as a shady man with money who is courting her.
