Plot summary

Back in Sicily after training in Bologna, Stefano Belfiore works as a psychiatrist in the flat he shares with his wife. Chiara, lively but accident-prone with three car crashes behind her in a month, and her sister Letizia, withdrawn yet curious about ideas, are among his first patients. The two live together, quarrel constantly and compete with each other, and he treats them separately and gives both the same attention. A new client then enters the practice, a man who shares his name and, though devious and cruel, soon earns his confidence. He watches his fellow patients with sophisticated equipment and turns what he finds into doubt in Stefano's mind.
