Plot summary

Scientists working at a Colombian coal mine bring up fossils of Titanoboa, a serpent 48 feet long that weighed 2,500 pounds and is the largest snake ever found. The bones come from Cerrejón, one of the world's largest coal mines, in La Guajira in northern Colombia, a site that covers more ground than Washington, DC. Researchers from the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, the Florida Museum of Natural History and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln study the find. The research reaches back to the age after the dinosaurs died out, when giant creatures lived, and to the snake as a monster predator.
