Plot summary
Wallace and Gromit are inventors of useful devices. For his birthday, Wallace gives Gromit, his dog, a set of robotic Techno-Trousers meant to take him on walks. The gift annoys Gromit. Wallace owes money, so he rents a room to a penguin. The penguin becomes friends with Wallace and plays electric organ music until Gromit leaves the house. The trousers can walk on walls and ceilings, and the penguin shows interest in them.

- Feathers McGraw, the villainous penguin, was originally going to be Wallace and Gromit's nephew or just a simple lodger, until Peter Lord suggested to Nick Park that the character should be a villain instead.
- Park wanted a model railway chase because staging a Hollywood-style action sequence in a living room struck him as funny, so Baker suggested they make a heist film with the train as the denouement.
- The climactic model train chase influenced other directors: David O. Russell said it shaped how he directed the action in Three Kings (1999), and Danny Boyle called it one of the greatest action sequences.
- The animators could not watch their own footage as they went along, because it had to be developed at a separate studio in London first.
- Peter Sallis, the voice of Wallace, said The Wrong Trousers was based loosely on the 1964 film Topkapi, and that it was his favorite Wallace & Gromit film.
