Plot summary
A mysterious murder draws Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson out of retirement. Professor Moriarty, Holmes's old adversary, has agreed to act for the Scowrers, an American criminal organization that wants vengeance on John Douglas, a country gentleman whose past is a mystery. As Holmes works the case, Dr. Watson and Inspector Lestrade find his methods hard to follow. A long flashback returns to the Vermissa Valley.
