Plot summary
At Jupiter Jones's birthday party in Rocky Beach, a videotape reaches Jupiter, Pete Crenshaw and Bob Andrews. The recording shows Jupiter's long dead parents, who pass on the key to a difficult riddle. The three investigators set out at once for the abandoned property of the inventor Terrill, deep in a Northern California wood. People say the place is haunted, and the boys need all their nerve to step inside the ruined buildings. Sheriff Hanson gives them trouble, and his daughter Caroline, who has supernatural powers, fixes her attention on Bob. She believes she recognizes in him a soul mate from long ago.
