Plot summary
The young nobleman Lucentio comes to Padua to study and is at once struck by Bianca, the daughter of a rich merchant, Baptista. Baptista, however, will not let Bianca be courted or wed until Katherina, her elder sister, has married, and Katherina's sharp tongue has discouraged every man in town. Lucentio disguises himself as a Latin tutor called Cambio and has his servant Tranio pose as Lucentio to win access to the house. Rival suitors Hortensio and Gremio fare no better. Petruchio, a landowner from Verona who since his father's death has set out to enjoy life and find a wife, arrives in Padua with his servant Grumio, and his old friend Hortensio points him toward Katherina.
