Plot summary
Set in 1970s Hollywood, the documentary follows Father Yod, also known as Jim Baker, and the Source Family, a group that lived communally and held outsider ideals on the Sunset Strip. Yod had thirteen wives, and the arrangement, along with the group's way of life, became an issue with local authorities. Members of the family made music as Ya Ho Wa 13, the band on which Yod sang lead. The documentary draws on the archive of Isis Aquarian, one of Yod's wives and the group's documentarian, which supplied photographs, a diary, film, recordings of Yod's morning classes and lost music tapes, together with interviews with family members and with people who knew Baker or visited the Source Restaurant.
