The Seafarers (1953) on Netflix

Plot summary

A union commissioned this short documentary to promote the benefits of membership, and its camera passes through ships, machinery, a cafeteria and a union meeting, where a district officer speaks. One long moving shot travels sideways through the cafeteria to establish the life of the seafaring community, and another follows a group of seafarers as they walk out of a shaded area into sunlight on their approach to the union hall. The staff of the union magazine supervised the production. The film was thought lost for decades until a film scholar located it in 1973 and arranged for a print to go to the Library of Congress.
