Plot summary

Dina Solovyova, a classmate of Gosha Korablyov, loves him without any return and stays near him all the time. Gosha loves Zosya Knushevitskaya, and the two ten-graders plan to marry once school is over. Dina's influential parents, a colonel and his wife, are ready to secure a comfortable life for their daughter and for a future son-in-law. Gosha himself intends to become a volcanologist. During the final examinations he hears that Zosya is expecting a child, and she has no wish to give it up. Her parents are Pavel, a head doctor, and Ella. On that same day Gosha accepts an invitation to dinner with Dina.
