Plot summary
A boy named Christopher rises from a rural lake fully clothed and is picked up by a church shuttle bus. At a service, a preacher gives a sermon about the world's sins, singling out six people he says have lived wickedly; all six graduated from the Stuart Morse Academy, now closed. Each receives an invitation to a ten-year reunion at the school. John Sinclair practices law dishonestly, Cindy lives for parties, Terry is a lazy overeater, Jane is an heiress who cares about appearances, Roger is a film actor vain about his looks, and Kirsten conceals her attraction to women. The six gather in a decorated ballroom stocked with food and drinks, with no one else present, and find they cannot leave.
