Plot summary
David Siegel owns Westgate Resorts, a timeshare business in Florida, and lives with his wife Jackie and their children in a 26,000-square-foot house. Jackie won the Mrs. Florida pageant in 1993 and is thirty years his junior. Feeling they have outgrown the current house, the couple begin work on Versailles on the outskirts of Orlando, a 90,000-square-foot mansion inspired by the Palace of Versailles that would be among the largest single-family homes in the United States. The 2008 recession then damages Westgate, the business financing the project, and the household must reckon with an income far smaller than the one the house was planned around.

- Rifkin found that Westgate had failed to show it was damaged by the documentary and that it "did not remotely establish the type of malice" needed for defamation, then ordered David Siegel and Westgate Resorts to pay the filmmakers $750,000 in legal fees.
- On January 24, 2013, a Florida federal court stayed David Siegel's suit against the film pending arbitration; he claimed Lauren Greenfield had not obtained a proper release from him and Westgate Resorts, and Judge Anne C. Conway found his testimony "inconsistent and incredible and thus lacking weight."
- After Westgate Resorts' finances improved, David Siegel would own the Versailles house outright; construction resumed but as of 2025 was still not complete, with the house expected to be valued at over $100 million and to be the fourth most expensive in the United States.
