Plot summary
A documentary about the contemporary art market, told through the artists, dealers, auctioneers and collectors involved in it. Jeff Koons, Njideka Akunyili Crosby, George Condo, Marilyn Minter, Larry Poons and Gerhard Richter are among the artists who appear, with dealer Gavin Brown, Amy Cappellazzo, an executive vice president at Sotheby's, auctioneer Simon de Pury and critic Jerry Saltz. Collectors Stefan Edlis, Gael Neeson and Inga Rubenstein buy work. Its concern is how art and the passion of making it fare in a consumer culture where money sets the terms. The title comes from a line in Oscar Wilde's 1892 play Lady Windermere's Fan, spoken on screen by collector Stefan Edlis.
