Plot summary
Tarzan has left England and settled back in Africa when word reaches him that his friend D'Arnot bailed out of a plane over the uncharted Guatemalan jungle after a lightning strike. D'Arnot may be held by a lost tribe. Ula Vale's fiancé died on an earlier expedition to find the Green Goddess, an idol said to hide an explosives formula and a fortune in jewels, so she mounts a search of her own in his memory. Major Francis Martling leads a separate archaeological expedition for the same artifact. Raglan, sent by Hiram Powers, has already set out to steal the idol. The three parties join forces.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about The New Adventures of Tarzan (1935)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Douglas Fairbanks Jr. suggested Herman Brix to MGM to play Tarzan, but Brix broke his shoulder filming Touchdown for Paramount and, with his recovery period uncertain, MGM cast Johnny Weissmuller in Tarzan the Ape Man instead.
- Herman Brix performed his own stunts, including swinging from real jungle vines. After a vine was tested with a 200 lb weight, Brix took a run up and overshot the pool of water he was meant to land in, and told an interviewer he still had the scars.
- Guatemala had no harbor, so the cast and crew had to be ferried ashore in boats across three miles of sea during a storm. They were then held up by customs and security officers of President Jorge Ubico, whose help producer Ashton Dearholt had counted on.
- The loan obtained in California was used up long before the picture was finished, and the expedition reportedly had to spend additional time hiding from local creditors and the police in the jungles before returning to California to finish the film.
- The pressbook said producer Ashton Dearholt had to take the role of villain P.B. Raglan at the last minute when the original actor, Don Castello, became ill; in reality, "Don Castello" was a pseudonym Dearholt chose himself, having planned all along to play the part.
- Producer Ashton Dearholt met a young swimmer, Florence Watson, while working in Guatemala for RKO in 1933 and hired her as the serial's lead actress, renaming her Ula Holt; he brought her back to Los Angeles and installed her in his household, and his wife left him and filed for divorce.
- Herman Brix was never paid for his work on the serial, and after the war he changed his name to Bruce Bennett to escape typecasting and work in quality projects again.
