Plot summary
Tarzan and his son, Boy, live on the Great Escarpment while Jane is in the United Kingdom, tending her sick mother. Jane's letter to them describes the struggle against Nazi Germany. German paratroopers land in search of raw materials for Germany's cause and make the lost city of Palandrya their advance base, enslaving its people. Lieutenant Schmidt, separated from the other paratroopers, convalesces at Tarzan's camp and says he is English. Zandra, the princess of Palandrya, reaches Tarzan and tells him the Germans have taken her city. Tarzan wants no part in the fight, since the Germans have not troubled him.

- The U.S. State Department told Sol Lesser that a Tarzan film would be an ideal way to spread the message of democracy's battle against fascism to the American public, even though Lesser's first RKO Tarzan film had made the Ape Man a symbol of American isolationism. It became the highest grossing of Lesser's Tarzan films.
- Maureen O'Sullivan could not reprise her role as Jane because the franchise switched from MGM to RKO and she was an MGM contract player; instead Frances Gifford played the princess of the lost city of Palandrya, which is conquered by Germans.
- Unlike previous Tarzan films, the natives here are played by whites in South Sea Island costume rather than the black Africans of the MGM films, and this use of non-blacks as natives continued for several other Tarzan films in the 1940s.
