Trailer

Plot summary

The inquiry begins with a journalist and filmmaker from the South, who wants to know why racial divisions in the United States persist. She finds that the politics of slavery outlasted the Civil War. Her account traces slavery's history from the nation's founding through its ties to racism today, which it presents as the country's original sin. Historians, authors and a descendant of Black Canadian pioneers speak about that history.
