Plot summary
In December 1995, the public-access show Fact or Fiction sends four men into the New Jersey Pine Barrens to stage a live broadcast in search of the Jersey Devil. The hosts are Steven "Johnny" Avkast and Locus Wheeler; with them go sound man Rein Clackin and psychic Jim Suerd. Only Suerd walks out. Avkast's body is never found, and Suerd is charged with the murders. A trial reconstruction built from footage recovered at the scene helps convict him, yet his clothes carried no blood and he was logged into an Internet chat room at the hours in question. A year later, filmmaker David Leigh begins his own documentary inquiry into the case.
