Plot summary
As a boy, Jackie Robinson receives a worn-out baseball glove from a stranger. At UCLA he excels in several sports. His older brother Mack, a college graduate and athlete, works as a street cleaner. Drafted during World War II, Robinson serves as an athletic director before joining a professional African American team. A Dodgers scout, Clyde Sukeforth, tells Robinson that team president Branch Rickey wants to see him. Robinson takes the offer for a joke, since the segregated major leagues bar African Americans. Rickey warns him about the abuse he must endure without striking back.
