Plot summary

The Jejune Institute was an alternate reality game played across San Francisco, and it enrolled more than 10,000 people over three years. Flyers pasted around the city drew strangers to the invented Institute, whose headquarters sat in an office building in the Financial District, and there they received their induction. An Oakland artist produced the game. The documentary rebuilds what happened from interviews with the players and the people who made it, following the place where everyday life and invented story meet. It takes in street art, counter-culture and new religious movements, along with the unplanned and unsettling effects the game had on some of those who joined.
