Plot summary
Neil Skinner has finished a four-year prison term for a crime he did not commit. He arrives at Ocean Downs, the San Diego racetrack where he once shared a security business with Ebbet Berens and Sheila Atkins. Berens framed him to take over that business, and has been trying to get rid of him since his release. Sheila, Skinner's former lover, now sides with Berens and holds Skinner guilty; Detective Leland also watches him. Skinner draws on what he knows about the track's security systems and its staff for a heist meant to put Berens in jail and show Sheila he was innocent.
