Plot summary

Whitney Brown, a privileged and popular teenager in Philadelphia, puts herself and her friend Lindsay on the ballot for class president, a contest they win after promising the best school formal. Her mother Joan gives her a credit card to buy a dress, and the card is declined. On television the family learns that the company employing Whitney's father Henry has gone bankrupt. The bank takes what they own, and the family relocates to the old country farm once belonging to Whitney's grandparents. Whitney finds no contact with her old friends, and her new school leaves her out of place. A neighboring rancher named Dusty owns Bob, a Gypsy Vanner horse, and the animal becomes her companion.
