Plot summary
A giant, mutated Gila monster stalks a rural Texas community. Pat and Liz, a young couple, are parked in their car overlooking a ravine when the creature comes for them, and the vehicle crashes down out of sight. Sheriff Jeff launches a search for the missing pair, assisted by their friends. Chase Winstead, a mechanic who races hot rods, finds the wrecked car at the bottom of the ravine, its interior smeared with blood and with no sign of either person inside. The lizard has left the desert behind and now goes after people on the roads, killing livestock and crashing an oil tanker.
