Plot summary
The credit bubble that brought on the financial crisis of 2008 drives an account built from interviews with leading economists such as a Yale professor and a Nobel laureate, an economic historian, a fund manager and a corporate watchdog. Wall Street insiders and people hurt by the crash also appear, among them a former mortgage bond trader who now runs tours of the financial district and a former New York Times economics correspondent facing foreclosure on his own home. The testimony reaches back through American capitalism in the twentieth century to argue that the crisis grew out of a changing relationship between the wealthy and the rest of society.
