Plot summary

On the North Shore of Kauai, at the end of a road, Howard Taylor owns a stretch of oceanfront land. When a band of young Mainlanders lands in jail on vagrancy charges, he pays their bail and invites the group to live on the property. Their settlement becomes a village of tree houses in the forest along the beach, a place where clothing is optional and marijuana is tolerated. Word spreads, and hippies, surfers and troubled Vietnam veterans make their way there. The people who were on Kauai before the newcomers arrived decide it is time for them to go.
