Plot summary
In 2010, Molly and John Chester leave Los Angeles for a 234-acre farm near Moorpark, in Ventura County, California. A barking dog brings an eviction notice to their tiny apartment, and the couple chooses the land instead. They name it Apricot Lane Farms. Their ambition is a farm that lives in complete coexistence with nature, among the most diverse of its kind, with thousands of orchard trees and more than 200 different crops. Animals arrive too, among them a pig named Emma and a rooster called Greasy. The land they have chosen, though, is arid and stripped of nutrients, and a drought has settled over it.
