Plot summary
Reporters gather at the wedding of Kôichi Nishi and Yoshiko, the daughter of Iwabuchi, vice president of the Public Development Corporation, and notice the cake, a replica of the company's headquarters. Nishi, once Iwabuchi's secretary, married into the family to avenge his own father. Police interrupt the reception to arrest Wada, the master of ceremonies, over a kickback scheme linking a construction firm to the publicly funded corporation. Talk turns to a scandal at the firm that was hushed up years earlier, after an employee fell from a seventh-floor office window and the inquiry stopped short of the executives.
