Plot summary
Michael and Naomi have not been able to conceive a child of their own, and they are desperate for one. They recruit a young woman named Jennifer Ray Clark, who agrees to act as their surrogate, and she becomes pregnant with their baby. She moves into the couple's home to carry the child, and to Michael and Naomi the family they have wanted for so long finally looks within reach. Jennifer lives with them through the months of the pregnancy, and she has a secret she has not shared with them, and reasons of her own for taking the arrangement.
