Plot summary
It is senior year at Laguna High, and the class is bound for Costa Rica on a senior trip built around a high school surfing championship. Five seniors who cannot surf are left off the list, so Jordan, an East Coast transfer already on the outside at his new school, gathers them into a team. In Costa Rica they sign up at a surf school run by Rip, a former surfing star who is now an alcoholic, and, short on money, lodge at a commune kept by Boris and Tillie, one-time hippie radicals still wanted by the FBI. The misfits have one week to learn what they can from Rip before facing Tyler, the school bully.
