Plot summary
William was 24 years old, an African-American teacher in New York and the eldest son of his family. In April 1992 he was shot and killed. Mark P. Reilly, a white 19-year-old who worked at a chop shop, said he had acted in self-defense. In Suffolk County, a grand jury whose members were all white declined to indict him. A documentary about the killing examines murderous fear and racialized perception, and the wreckage that follows a catastrophe.
