Plot summary
Ian Cauble, Dustin Wilson, DLynn Proctor and Brian McClintic are preparing for the Master Sommelier diploma, and their families and partners describe how much of their lives the work takes. Each has a different reason to want it: a wife, an obsession with passing, or the wish to be thought the best-dressed man in a restaurant. They say a candidate has to know everything about wine, and winemakers in the United States, Italy, France and Germany show how large that field is. A countdown to the three-part exam begins. With three weeks left, study consumes them: wine regions traced on internet maps, flashcards, and quizzes over Skype at 2:30 in the morning. Practice tastings follow with Master Sommeliers.
