Plot summary
Five American soldiers under Lt. Factor move by ski into the Hürtgen Forest on the German side of the lines. Sgt. Potter, the platoon's veteran sergeant, has told the men to attack the Germans, while Factor wants the patrol kept to reconnaissance. The next morning the soldiers spot a German column that includes tanks. Factor radios what he has seen and hears that Allied troops are under attack. German troops press the Americans as they move, and the patrol takes shelter in a cabin, where a young woman named Ilse is told to cook for them.

- Roger Corman shot the film in Deadwood, South Dakota, because a Chicago crew cost less than a Los Angeles one, and to consolidate costs his brother Gene produced Beast from Haunted Cave at the same location with the same screenwriter and lead actors. The two films took five weeks, with one day off between them.
- Corman cast a German ski instructor as the head of the German ski troop, but the instructor broke his leg two days before the shoot, so Corman took the part himself after skiing occasionally at college and a single one-day lesson.
- The film's score, written by cellist Fred Katz, was originally written for A Bucket of Blood; according to author Mark Thomas McGee, Katz sold Corman the same score as new music each time, and it ended up in seven films including The Wasp Woman and Creature from the Haunted Sea.
- Corman hired ski teams from high schools in Deadwood and Lead, South Dakota, but could only film them on weekends and after school; one team played the Germans and the other played the Americans.
