Plot summary
Mitch Preston is a longtime LAPD detective who dislikes how television portrays police work. While he is undercover, a drug dealer known as Lazy Boy escapes with a custom-built armor-piercing gun, and Mitch shoots out a Maxxis Television camera. The network files a ten-million-dollar lawsuit and offers to drop it if Mitch stars in a reality show about his job, which his captain approves for the publicity. Chase Renzi, a Maxxis producer, wants a sidekick for the show and picks Trey Sellars, a beat cop who has failed the investigator exam and campaigned for the job, hoping the cameras bring him exposure. The producers build a set inside the station, replace Mitch's car with a Humvee, and hire a television actor who once played a cop to coach the two men.
