Plot summary
Nineteen-year-old Sandi Tan and her friends Jasmine Ng and Sophia Siddique shot a road movie in Singapore during the summer of 1992 with their mentor and film teacher, Georges Cardona. Tan had written the screenplay and took the leading part, a teenage killer called S. Once the shoot ended, the three friends left the reels in Cardona's keeping and went abroad to college. Cardona vanished with them, and they did not see him again. Tan later settled in Los Angeles, where she worked as a novelist. In 2011 a message reached her: Cardona's ex-wife had the 16mm footage, though the audio tracks were missing. Tan began digitizing the material for a documentary about the 1992 production, its loss, and the people who had known Cardona.
