Plot summary
Martin Sedlmayr has just won an indoor world championship, shown in the opening scene, and is regarded as the best sport climber in the world. Ivan, a journalist, brings him together with Roger, a mountaineering expert, who insists that Martin would not survive a single day on a real expedition. Their argument becomes a wager over who is the stronger climber. The two men plan an expedition to Cerro Torre, in Patagonia, near the border between Argentina and Chile. It is one of the hardest mountains on earth, known for extreme weather and for the absence of a clear route to the summit.
