Plot summary
Lord Wingate leaves court acquitted of fraud, on probation and short of money. He sets up a school where young women are trained in gold-digging, and his cut comes from whatever they manage to take from rich men. The Duchess of Burwash, an alcoholic widow, is hired to teach, and Hector, an aged Cockney, becomes the fitness instructor. A friend in the probation service supplies the first pupils, women on probation from Holloway Prison, who arrive together by minibus. Wealthy parents then begin enrolling their daughters, under the impression that the place is a finishing school, and the pupils from Holloway end up learning beside them.
