Plot summary
Titanic strikes an iceberg and the men below decks stay at their posts. Chief Engineer Joseph Bell leads the engineers, firemen, trimmers and electricians who keep the furnaces and generators going as the sea comes in. Leading fireman Fred Barrett, trimmer Thomas Dillon and assistant engineer Jonathan Shepherd work among the boilers. Electricians Albert Ervine, Alfred Middleton and William Kelly hold the power on, and greaser Alfred White and assistant engineer Herbert Harvey tend the machinery. The drama-documentary follows the engineers, stokers and firemen of the boiler rooms rather than the passengers and senior officers above, and is drawn from eye-witness accounts.
