Ye Liu
Biography
Liu Ye is a Chinese actor who drew notice with his first film, Postman in the Mountains, which earned him a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the 1999 Golden Rooster Awards in China. After graduating from the Central Academy of Drama, he starred in Lan Yu (2001), a performance that won him the Best Actor prize at the 38th Golden Horse Awards in Taiwan. Three years later he took the same honor at the 24th Golden Rooster Awards for Foliage. His first American movie, Dark Matter, with Meryl Streep and Aiden Quinn, earned the Alfred Sloan Award at Sundance in 2007. Playing a resistance fighter in City of Life and Death (2009), which won the Golden Seashell Award, he drew widespread praise from critics. Rather than trade on his looks, he has chosen tough parts, ranging from plain, down-to-earth figures and melancholy introverts to manly, dashing roles.
