Walter Day
Biography
Walter Day is an American businessman who started Twin Galaxies, a group that keeps track of video game records and promotes electronic gaming. Born in Oakland, California, he settled in Fairfield, Iowa, where he sold commemorative newspapers. In 1980 he moved to Houston to trade oil futures, then returned and acquired Twin Galaxies, an arcade in Ottumwa, Iowa, in 1981. He also built an online platform that set rules and gathered competitive scores, and Twin Galaxies became a trusted source for high scores. Video games joined Guinness World Records as a category in 1983, with Twin Galaxies verifying scores, and Day was assistant editor for video game scores in the 1984 to 1986 editions. He presented a Guinness Record at the 2017 Hugo Awards, and in May 2010 he left the company to work in music. His documentary appearances include The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters (2007), The King of Arcades (2014), and Nintendo Quest (2015).
