Virginia Gibson
Biography
Virginia Gibson was a dancer, singer, and actress whose career included musical theater, film, and television. Born in St. Louis, she began in local musicals, dancing in The Student Prince and with the Muny Opera before joining the Broadway show Roll Up Your Sleeves. Warner Bros. signed her in 1950, and she made her screen debut in Tea for Two (1950). At that studio she was cast in supporting and leading musical roles, most memorably as Liza in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954). Her television credits included Captain Billy's Showboat, So This Is Hollywood, and The Johnny Carson Show. She returned to Broadway in 1956 for Happy Hunting, earning a Tony nomination for that part. From 1962 to 1971 she cohosted the ABC children's program Discovery, and after her performing career ended she taught at HB Studio.
