Vernon Davis
Biography
Vernon Davis is a former professional football player who played tight end in the NFL. Born in Washington, D.C., he played college football at Maryland, where he was a consensus All-American in 2005. The San Francisco 49ers chose him sixth overall in the 2006 NFL draft, and he made two Pro Bowls during his time with the team. In 2009 he matched the single-season touchdown reception record for his position with 13. During the 2011 playoffs, he scored the winning touchdown on a pass from Alex Smith against New Orleans, a play nicknamed the Catch III. A trade sent him to Denver in 2015, and he won Super Bowl 50 with the Broncos. He joined Washington in 2016 and remained there until he retired after the 2019 season. After his playing career he became an entrepreneur and investor, and in 2025 he was named a nominee for the College Football Hall of Fame.
