Vanity

Vanity was a Canadian singer, model, and actress. Born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, she entered local beauty contests and modeled in Toronto and New York, using the name D.D. Winters. Under that alias she had a small part in the horror film Terror Train (1980) and starred in Tanya's Island. She became the lead singer of Prince's trio Vanity 6, whose single Nasty Girl was an international hit; the group made one album before splitting in 1983. She then signed with Motown and released Wild Animal, followed by Skin on Skin, which produced the R&B top 10 hit Under the Influence. As an actress, she starred in The Last Dragon (1985), Never Too Young to Die (1986), 52 Pick-Up (1986), and Action Jackson (1988), with Roger Ebert praising her work in the last. She also appeared on television series including Miami Vice and Highlander. Her final film role came in Kiss of Death (1993).
