Tony Nardi
Biography
Tony Nardi is an Italian-Canadian actor, playwright and theater director who was born in Carolei, Calabria and raised in Canada. His first stage role came in 1978, in a production of Solzhenitsyn directed by Alexander Hausvater, and he has since performed in more than 60 plays. On screen he has appeared in Cruising Bar (1989), The Saracen Woman (1992), for which he also helped write the screenplay, and My Father's Angel (2001), as well as the television film Bonanno: A Godfather's Story (1999). He won the Genie Award for best lead actor twice, for The Saracen Woman and My Father's Angel, and was nominated three further times. His writing includes Two Letters, nominated for a Dora Award for outstanding new play, and he has taught acting and directing at York University and at the University of Toronto.

Nardi co-wrote La Storia dell'Emigrante with Vincent Ierfino, a play in Calabrian, English and French that was the first on record by an Italian-Canadian about an Italian-Canadian reality, and it won the first James Bullet Award for Best Original Canadian play in 1982.

At the 30th Genie Awards in 2010, Nardi was placed on the Academy's 30th Anniversary Top 10 list in the Lead Actor category, a ranking built from wins and nominations across the 30-year period.
