Steve Caballero

Biography

Steve Caballero is an American professional skateboarder known for inventing difficult vertical tricks and for his long-standing halfpipe air record. Born in San Jose, he began skating in 1976 and turned pro in 1980 with Powell Peralta, after finishing fifth in a national contest. He invented the Caballerial, a fakie 360 aerial, and the frontside boardslide. In 1987 he won the street and vert titles at the world championship in Germany and set a halfpipe air record that lasted until 1997. Thrasher Magazine named him Skater of the Century in 1999. A Bones Brigade member, he appeared in videos such as The Search for Animal Chin and the 2012 documentary Bones Brigade: An Autobiography, and he acted in Escape from El Diablo (1984). He has also played in punk bands including The Faction and Urethane, and has appeared as a character in Tony Hawk video games.
