Stefania Casini

Stefania Casini is an Italian actress and filmmaker who came to acting after studying architecture, and she worked early on with directors including Pietro Germi, Bernardo Bertolucci, Peter Greenaway and Dario Argento. Toward the end of the 1970s she settled in New York, where she acted in Andy Warhol's Bad before deciding to move behind the camera. She turned to directing, and with Francesca Marciano she wrote and directed her first feature, Lontano da dove, which was shown at the Venice Film Festival in 1983; a second feature, Un Paradiso di Bugie, followed in 1997. Her directing credits also take in six features made for the Italian broadcaster MEDIASET, and she has produced many documentaries and reportages for RAI and MEDIASET, often about women and young people, along with series such as To be 20 years old in..., broadcast across ten European countries. She was artistic director of the Terra di Siena festival.
