Ron McLarty

Biography

Ron McLarty was an American actor, playwright, and novelist who started out in theater in the early 1970s. His early professional work included playing Lucky in Michael Weller's Moonchildren at Arena Stage in Washington, D.C., in 1971, and he remained with the show when it moved to Broadway in 1972. On television he co-starred as Boston homicide detective Sgt. Frank Belson on Spenser: For Hire, and he appeared in many other series, films, and stage productions. McLarty wrote dozens of plays and ten novels, among them The Memory of Running (2004), which was published after Stephen King heard the audiobook narration and praised it. As a narrator, McLarty recorded over 100 titles and earned many Audie Awards; his work included the Hunter S. Thompson book Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and the full version of Decision Points by George W. Bush. A 1969 graduate of Rhode Island College, he later received a Doctor of Humanities from that school.
