Robert Rodriguez

Robert Rodriguez is an American filmmaker who takes on many roles on his own movies, often shooting, editing, and scoring them in Texas and Mexico. He was born in San Antonio and began making short films on video as a student, and his 16 mm short Bedhead (1991) drew attention. He shot the Spanish-language action film El Mariachi (1992) for around $7,000 and won the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival in 1993. That film led to the Mexico Trilogy, which continued with Desperado (1995) and Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2003). He directed From Dusk till Dawn (1996), The Faculty (1998), and the Spy Kids series, and co-directed Sin City (2005) with Frank Miller. He wrote the book Rebel Without a Crew and launched the El Rey cable channel.
