Ray Meagher

Ray Meagher is an Australian actor whose screen career began in the mid-1970s. Born in Roma, Queensland, he first appeared on television hosting the folk music program Around Folk in 1973 and became a busy character actor, frequently cast as villains and tough characters in series such as Number 96 and Prisoner. His films include The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith (1978), The Odd Angry Shot (1979) and Breaker Morant (1980), in which he played Sergeant Drummond. He won a Penguin Award for his lead role in the telemovie Mail Order Bride, and has played Alf Stewart on Home and Away since 1988, a part recognized by Guinness as the longest-running in an Australian serial. He won a Gold Logie in 2010 and another in 2018, and has also worked on stage in Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
