Pat Boone
Biography
Pat Boone is an American singer, actor, and author. Born in Jacksonville, Florida, and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, he began recording in 1953 for Republic Records and signed with Dot Records in 1955. A cover of Fats Domino's Ain't That a Shame gave him an early hit, and he scored number-one singles including I Almost Lost My Mind, Don't Forbid Me, Love Letters in the Sand, April Love, and Moody River. From 1957 to 1960 he hosted his own ABC variety show, The Pat Boone Chevy Showroom. His films include Journey to the Center of the Earth (1959), The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965), and The Cross and the Switchblade (1970). Later credits include Roger & Me (1989), The Eyes of Tammy Faye (2000), God's Not Dead 2 (2016), and The Mulligan (2022). In 2003 he was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, and he has continued to record and perform.

In 2025, Boone achieved the longest gap between entries on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart. His song "One - Voices for Tanzania" returned him to the chart 63 years, 8 months and 3 weeks after "Moody River" on July 17, 1961.
Getting ready for a role
Boone was reluctant to make Journey to the Center of the Earth and had to be persuaded with the chance to sing several songs and a share of the profits.
Early training
Boone produced and starred in the documentary Salute to the Teenagers in 1960. After that he did not appear in a film for a while, and he studied acting with Sanford Meisner.
Behind the camera
Boone wrote the lyrics to Ernest Gold's instrumental theme for the 1960 film Exodus, titling it This Land Is Mine.
A first
In 1959, Boone's likeness was licensed to DC Comics. He first appeared in Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane No. 9, then got his own comic series of five issues.
